OCR Level 3 FSMQ: Additional Maths (6993)

A free, complete set of notes, worked examples and practice questions for the Cambridge OCR Level 3 Free Standing Mathematics Qualification: Additional Maths.

The qualification builds directly on Higher tier GCSE (9–1) Mathematics. It consists of four “pure” topics, each with an applied dimension, plus two numerical topics, all underpinned by an Algebra section — and it is assessed by a single two-hour examination graded A to E.

Use the menu on the left, or the links below, to reach any topic.

The seven topics

  • AlgebraAL1–AL11 · manipulation, polynomials, equations, inequalities, recurrence relations
  • EnumerationEN1–EN6 · binomial expansion, counting, permutations, combinations, probability
  • Coordinate GeometryCG1–CG8 · lines, circles, curve sketching, tangents, linear programming
  • Pythagoras and TrigonometryPT1–PT6 · any angle, sine and cosine rules, identities, equations, 3-D
  • CalculusCA1–CA15 · differentiation, stationary points, integration, areas, kinematics
  • Numerical MethodsNM1–NM9 · change of sign, iteration, chords, trapezium rule
  • Exponentials and LogarithmsEL1–EL7 · exponential functions, log laws, growth and decay

About these pages

Every topic has an overview page covering the big picture, the language, the key formulae and the common mistakes, plus a page for each group of specification statements. Each page contains step-by-step explanations, several fully worked examples, a quick-reference summary, and ten practice questions with complete worked solutions that you can reveal one at a time.

All pages are self-contained HTML files, so they can be downloaded and used offline.

A note on the examination. A scientific or graphical calculator is allowed, and the specification expects it to have an iterative function such as an ANS key. But watch the command words: where a question says “in this question you must show detailed reasoning”, an answer taken straight from a calculator’s solver or integral function will not earn full marks. Every worked solution on these pages shows the analytical method in full.
